Doula Services

As your doula, I'll provide three major types of support:

  • As you prepare for labor and delivery, you may be overwhelmed if it’s your first exposure to a lot of new information about childbirth and parenting.

The internet and social media can also provide a wealth of information, but it's not all applicable and correct, and sometimes it’s hard to tell who is just trying to sell you something. A doula is not a medical professional, but we are embedded in the world of childbirth and can provide valuable information about the benefits and drawbacks of each choice.

  • While a doula cannot practice medicine or perform procedures, we can provide support for physical comfort measures that can alleviate the discomforts of pregnancy and labor. Gentle massage, suggesting positions, and preparation for coping with pain are all within the purview of a doula.

  • Providing calm, nurturing, and unbiased emotional support is one of the major roles of a childbirth doula. We are there not only to support the birth-giver, but their partner or support people as well. Childbirth can be empowering, intimidating, and joyous, all at once. Don’t underestimate the value of someone helping you relax between contractions, rubbing your back while your partner catches a much-needed breath, and reminding you that you are doing a great job and you can do this!

 FAQs

  • Unfortunately, I cannot currently provide an insurance receipt.

  • Whenever! You can contact me as early as you’d like, especially if you need time to interview other doulas. Please note, if there is <1 month until your due date, it may be hard to fit in more than 1 prenatal meeting

  • I work as a researcher Monday-Friday ~9-5, so I will ask to schedule prenatal meetings in the evening or on the weekends. When it comes to birth, I have it arranged with my job to ensure I can be there for the entirety.

  • If there are exceptional circumstances that make hiring a doula difficult for you (e.g. if you are a teenager, single-parent, or refugee), please reach out and mention this, as I occasionally take clients pro bono.
